In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic and waiting for a potential return to the ice before the start to summer, the Anaheim Ducks have decided to keep a former Prince George Cougar for two more years.
Brendan Guhle signed a two-year contract extension this past weekend with the NHL’s southern California franchise until the 2021-2022 season for $1.6 million.
The 22-year-old defenceman has currently collected eight points in 30 games with the Ducks in the 2019-20 campaign and finished a plus-nine (+9) rating with the San Diego Gulls before the American Hockey League (AHL) officially cancelled the remainder of its season today (May 11).
Guhle graduated from Prince George in 2017 after aiding the team to its first division title in history and earning MVP honours.
With the Cougars, he accumulated 13 goals and 29 points in 32 games.
The Edmonton product was drafted by Buffalo in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft and even played three games with the Sabres on an emergency basis during his final WHL season in Prince George.
According to CapFriendly, Guhle’s new contract is a one-way deal and is expected to earn $900,000 in the first year and $700,000 in the second.
