The 2020 World Junior Championships begin Boxing Day (Dec. 26) and one Prince George Cougar could have a chance to play not only for a medal, but in front of his family and friends too.
Filip Koffer has been invited to training camp for his home country of the Czech Republic, who just so happen to be the hosts of this year’s IIHF Under-20 tournament.
The 18-year-old will look to impress coaches and trainers and if he makes the cut, this wouldn’t be his first time wearing the crowned lion on his chest.
In fact, Koffer could be suiting up for his fourth Czech Republic national squad in four years after playing for the nation’s Under-16, -17 and -18 teams in the last three.
The forward has combined for 37 points in a white, blue and red sweater, scoring 14 goals and adding 23 helpers.

Prince George selected Koffer 10th overall in the 2019 CHL Import Draft and since stepping on North American ice, he’s posted 10 assists and 13 points in 27 games.
He is originally from Hradec Kralove, which is just a three-hour drive from host-cities Ostrava and Trinec, and will depart for Europe next week for camp.
The World Juniors are slated for Dec. 26, 2019 to Jan. 5, 2020.
