He’s one step closer to reaching his goal of suiting up in a Cougars’ sweater in his second home before friends and family.
Caden Brown officially signed a WHL standard player agreement with Prince George on Monday (May 4), which commits the 15-year-old to the team for the years to come.
He hails from Fort St. John, but has family living in B.C.’s northern capital and said in an earlier interview with PrinceGeorgeMatters they were incredibly excited to hear of his selection in the 2020 bantam draft last month.
“I was just watching and waiting for my name to be called. [...] My Mom was very happy and our phones instantly blew up because we’ve got tons of our family in Prince George. They were so excited to see that they’ll have someone from the family play for the Cougars. It was a pretty special moment.”
Brown was taken 17th overall and was the Cougars’ second of three picks in the first round.
Scouting Director Bob Simmonds believes he’s going to quickly become a fan favourite once he’s ready to make the major-junior jump.
“Caden is an elite level scorer, who plays a hard, heavy game,” he said also to PrinceGeorgeMatters following the draft.
“He’s a northern B.C. kid who has ties to Prince George and is very familiar with the community. We were thrilled to draft him and he’s the perfect complement to [first-pick] Riley Heidt."
Brown tallied 35 goals and 65 points in 30 games last season as the captain of the Delta Hockey Academy’s Bantam Prep Green team.
The Wild finished first in the CSSHL regular season and won the inaugural U.S. Challenge Cup back in February.
