Prince George fastball team crowned COVID Cup champions in Kelowna

Big Guy Lake Kings go 5-1 in rare B.C. sports tournament

A fastball tournament in the Okanagan was given the go-ahead this past weekend in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and it was a Prince George team coming out on top.

The Big Guy Lake Kings shut out the host-Kelowna 6-0 in the final on Sunday (July 5) to capture the Andre's Memorial COVID Classic Cup.

The Kings finished with a record of 5-1 against teams coming from different regions of B.C., including four straight wins to close out.

Results from the double-knockout tournament are as follows:

  • 6-0 win over Andre’s Kelowna (Gold Medal Game)
  • 8-4 win over Fleetwood Marlins (Semi-finals)
  • 14-5 win over Green Sox
  • 7-2 win over Vernon Installers
  • 6-4 loss to Fleetwood Marlins
  • 12-1 win over Abbotsford

The Kings' next scheduled event is an August tournament in Chase.

PrinceGeorgeMatters has also been told the Spruce City Men’s Fastball League, which contains players from the Big Guy Lake Kings, is still waiting to get the green light to start the 2020 season.

If successful, the league would consist of four local teams.
