It’s all over, except for the clean up.
Demolition of Fire Hall No. 1 downtown was nearing completion on Thursday morning. No walls of the fire hall, which served as city from 1956 to 2021, remained standing as of Thursday.
Crews were spraying water on the debris, as heavy equipment loaded rubble into dump trucks for removal. Demolition began on May 25.
The Prince George Fire Rescue Service relocated to the new Fire Hall No. 1 on Massey Drive in January, 2021.
According to information released by the city earlier this month, work on the site will only occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
The city plans to recycle all concrete, metal and wood from the building. Once the demolition is complete, the site will be used as a temporary gravel parking lot until the city’s Civic Core District Plan is completed.
