Prince George firefighters responded to two structure fires in the early hours of Tuesday morning (Nov. 13).

Crews attended a fire in an abandoned home in the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue, near Prince Rupert Street, at roughly 2:15 a.m

The structure was vacant and there were no injuries reported.

Deputy Chief Blake King says the fire started in the basement but the cause is undetermined.

The second fire happened in the 2200 block of Redwood Street shortly after at 2:40 a.m.

The family was home at the time but were evacuated safely.

“The fire started in a vent off the dryer and was caused by a buildup of lint,” says King. “The family was home and noticed the smoke. They closed the door to the laundry room which helped them to contain the fire and exit safely.”

King says there was extensive smoke damage to the structure, but there is no official estimate of damage available for either home.
