For those battling cancer and having to attend treatments, finding accommodations when going out of town for treatment can be extremely difficult and stressful.

However, a Prince George hotel is helping ease that burden for patients and their families.

The Courtyard Marriott hotel has donated accommodations to those needing treatments at the BC Cancer Centre in Prince George since 2018.

“We take immense pride in putting people first,” General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Prince George Jamie Valcourt says in a release.

“Every member of our entire team loves being able to support our community, and we are grateful to be able to alleviate one burden for families impacted by cancer.”

The hotel donated 100 rooms for the year to support cancer patients in financial need who are undergoing treatment in Prince George. The donated accommodations are administered through BC Cancer - Prince George to those most vulnerable.

Another local hotel, Gramma's Inn is offering reduced rates for cancer patients in need.

These generous acts by local hotels are an incredible help to patients needing a place to stay near BC Cancer –Prince George while they undergo treatment. There remains a significant need to support patients during this time, you can help by donating today to the BC Cancer COVID-19 Response Fund.

“It’s such a kind gesture that has had an immense impact on patients,” Practice Leader, Patient and Family Counselling at BC Cancer Carolyn Jacob adds in the release.

“Providing a place to stay and rest at such a critical time allows that patient to focus their energy on their treatments instead.”

Valcourt added, with the major impact of COVID-19 in the community and worldwide, the Courtyard Marriott has adapted to changing circumstances with extreme vigilance to cleaning and disinfecting throughout the hotel.

To help support patients at risk, as well as the clinical experts who care for them, the BC Cancer Foundation has also launched the BC Cancer COVID-19 Response Fund.

The fund supports emerging priority needs for the organization, including:

  • Providing patients with safe transportation to clinical appointments
  • Delivery of life-saving medication to their homes
  • Accommodation near a BC Cancer Centre for those who travel for appointments
