Mounties in Prince George are releasing more information from a massive house fire this past weekend (Oct. 12).
Cpl. Craig Douglass says in a news release police, as well as emergency services, received a call at roughly 9:15 p.m. of a report of an explosion and subsequent fire at a home on Chilako Drive.
Frontline officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Nearby residences were evacuated while officers provided emergency care to those who suffered injuries.
Four males were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries during the fire.
A 40-year-old Prince George man has since died from his injuries, while three others are expected to survive.
Douglass adds it's believed everyone made it out of the residence, however, one dog did not make it out.
Prince George RCMP says the cause is under investigation and the scene has been secured.
Douglass says video evidence, as well as witnesses, has indicated those inside the residence were handling large quantities of gasoline.
"This morning (Oct. 15), RCMP fire investigators will be on the scene with members of the RCMP's Forensic Identification Section to gather evidence to help determine whether this incident was criminal in nature," Douglass adds.
The home involved in the fire is well known to police and has been subject to other RCMP investigations in the past.
Douglass says updates will be provided when available.
Anyone with information or videos related to the incident is asked to contact Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
