Prince George parkour gym to reopen after COVID-19 grounded training for five months

Olympus Freerunning putting protocols in place for safe practice

It was open for just seven months prior to COVID-19.

Now, Prince George’s only parkour gym will experience a deja-vu moment in reopening its doors in September once again, which is around the same time it officially launched in 2019.

Olympus Freerunning closed on March 18 for more than five months as an effort to help reduce the spread of the virus.

Owner and Head Coach Riley Banzer is looking forward to officially welcoming back aspiring adrenaline junkies of ages eight and older on Sept. 9, but says operations will be a bit different.

“We will be doing social distancing, with masks strongly encouraged, but a fitness environment such as this is very hard to make people wear them with all the sweating and fast movements,” he explains to PrinceGeorgeMatters about health and safety protocols.

“Chances are they would fall off, or people would be touching their faces too much adjusting them.”

Banzer says Olympus is set to conduct periodical disinfecting of its facility’s high-traffic spots between sessions, as well as deep cleaning after hours.

Hand-sanitizer will also be mandatory for anyone that enters the gym.

Banzer adds only eight students will be allowed to sign up per class to meet physical-distancing requirements, but wait-lists are being created to accommodate demand.
