A Prince George family doctor is being recognized provincially for his work in the field of medicine.
Dr. Kalen Geddes is one of five B.C. doctors chosen to receive the "My Family Doctor Award" from the BC College of Family Physicians (BCCFP).
Geddes has a main interest in primary care obstetrics and practices as a hospitalist and medical assistance in dying (MAID) provider.
He also works out of the youth primary and gender-affirming care clinics at Foundry Prince George, as well as a clinical instructor for the Northern Medical and UBC residency programs.
The award is a patient-nominated award that honours the patient-doctor relationship and provides those in the province with the chance to recognize their family doctors.
One doctor from each Health Authority is selected each year and the BCCFP says close to 300 people nominated doctors from across the province.
The award helps recognize BC Family Doctor Day which is scheduled for Tuesday (May 19).

- Dr. Patricia Olsen - Victoria
- Dr. Mark Szynkaruk - Grand Forks
Dr. Geddes' nominator sent in the following message for award submission:
“He cared enough to change my husband’s quality of life, not just quantity of life, because he really cared. He talked to us and took time with us to find a balance that we both agreed on. He went out of his way to research questions we asked and helped us make life-changing decisions that we could both manage and still maintain. We weren't just a number on a chart that you should reach. He put us through a lot of changes before we found something that worked, but he did find it and we are so grateful that he cares about his patients. He means everything to us."
