A violent repeat offender was apprehended after a lengthy search in Quesnel Monday, RCMP reported.

Police received a report of a stolen car at about 4:44 p.m. The car was quickly located in a Walmart parking lot at 5:27 p.m

A suspect was still in the stolen vehicle and accelerated forward when police approached, striking a police vehicle and then driving through the crowded parking lot.

The vehicle was later reported to be abandoned on a road in Kersley after the suspect fled on foot.

An RCMP police dog out of Prince George soon arrived and conducted a lengthy track of the suspect.

The suspect was found shortly after barricading himself in a shed, and after a brief struggle was taken into custody.

“The suspect is well known to police. He was recently released on conditions for a similar offense that required electronic monitoring but was found to be breaching his conditions as he removed his ankle monitor shortly after being released,” stated Sgt. Clay Kronebusch.

Quesnel RCMP are looking to talk to anyone who may have witnessed or has video or dash cam footage from the interaction in the Walmart parking lot. If so, contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
