For the first time in over two years, the Prince George Public Library (PGPL) will be hosting a book sale.

“Typically we host two book sales a year, one in the spring and one in the fall,” said Margaret Johnston, past president and director of the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society.

“However, due to COVID-19, we have been unable to hold a Book Sale in over two years, so we are overflowing with books!”

Johnston said due to this delay they are unable to accept additional book donations until after the sale when they have freed up their storage space.

The Friends of the Prince George Public Library are local volunteers dedicated to supporting the programs and services of the Prince George Public Library.

“We believe that developing libraries is a crucial part of developing communities, and so we support the Prince George Public Library’s success by promoting the library and raising necessary funds for special library projects,” said Johnston.

Since their incorporation in 1990, the Friends of the Library have raised over $440,000 with fundraising initiatives like Book Sales, memberships and merchandise sales, and 50/50 draws.

“For over 30 years, the Friends of the Prince George Public Library have supported, promoted and advocated for the Prince George Public Library. Our friendship has been built on trust and respect. And like all good friends, we intend to be there to support, promote and advocate for the library in the years ahead”, said Johnston.

In past years members of the Friends of the Prince George Public Library have received early access to the Book Sales as a member benefit, however, the society’s member accounts are out of date due to COVID-19.

Instead, the society is encouraging people to renew their memberships at the spring Book Sale as they are hoping to potentially hold another Book Sale in June at the Nechako Branch and another one in the fall.

The Book Sale will be held at the Bob Harkins Branch, downtown, on Friday April 22nd from 10am-5:30pm and Saturday, April 23rd from 10am-3pm.

Books are sold by donation with the proceeds going to support special items, programs, and initiatives at the PGPL.
