Local Mounties have opened an attempted murder investigation after a Prince George man was shot and a vehicle believed to be related set on fire.
Cpl. Craig Douglass says police received reports of shots fired at Wiggins Place, off Moss Avenue at roughly 8 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found multiple spent bullet casings on the road, but no victims were found. Others in the South Fort George neighbourhood also reported hearing shots fired.
Witnesses also saw two dark vehicles fleeing the area following the shooting.
Shortly after 8:15 p.m., police were made aware that a 28-year-old-man from Prince George arrived in hospital with a gunshot would, which was believed to be non-life threatening.
Roughly at the same time, police received another call of a vehicle fire on Moyie Street, a few blocks from the shooting.
"Investigators believe that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire and is associated to the shooting," Douglass says in a release.
The Prince George RCMP's Serious Crime Section, Forensic Identification Section and Police Dog Service Section are all assisting with the investigation.
Mounties currently believe the shooting was targeted and directly related to the drug trade. Douglass adds police have no reason to believe the general public is at risk. The investigation is ongoing and will be a priority for the detachment.
