B.C.'s police watchdog is once again looking into Prince George RCMP actions during an arrest three days ago.
On May 11, 2019, at around 8:30 p.m., an officer was on patrol when they saw a man riding a bike allegedly weaving in and out of traffic and not wearing a helmet near Fifth Ave. and Ewart Street.
The officer stopped him to identify him and issue a violation ticket.
Later on, police attempted to arrest him for other unrelated offences near a home in the 500-block Alward St, when the man allegedly resisted the attempt from the officer.
The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) says the man was taken into police custody with help from back-up officers.
The man was then put in a cell at the Prince George RCMP detachment.
The next morning, the man complained of being in pain and B.C. Emergency Health Services were called to take the man to hospital for treatment.
An investigation will determine whether the police actions or inactions were linked to the man's injuries.
As a result of the incident, no further information will be released at this time.
