Who doesn't like a slice of pizza and chatting with cops?

It's not the way you might be thinking.

Prince George Mounties are participating in the "Cops, Pops, and Pizza" campaign for the second consecutive year.

Tomorrow (June 27) from 4 to 7 p.m., members of the Prince George RCMP as well as auxiliary members will work together with local Special Olympic serving pizza, collect donations while also raising awareness of Special Olympics B.C. (SOBC).

"This is the second year that our detachment has participated in this event," says spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass in a release.  "It is fantastic to watch the athletes describing their experiences competing in Special Olympics events to patrons.  It comes full circle because events like this one make those experiences possible."

Both Prince George locations are participating in the event:

  • Spruceland Mall, 102-841 Central St. West
  • Brookwood Plaza, 2500 Vance Rd.

Throughout B.C., more than 20 Boston Pizza locations will be participating in the event, which started in 2018.

The event follows the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics B.C.

"We are very grateful to all the law enforcement agencies and Boston Pizza restaurants that support Cops, Pops, and Pizza," SOBC President & CEO Dan Howe says in a release. "Along with raising vital funds for Special Olympics BC, the campaign is a fun way for athletes and law enforcement members to connect with people in their communities and spread awareness of SOBC's life-changing programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities."

More than $12,000 was raised for Special Olympics B.C.

During last year's event, Prince George RCMP raised $1,400 for the cause.
