UPDATE: Prince George man arrested after lengthy downtown commercial break and enter

Portions of downtown were closed for hours as police attempted to arrest the suspect

10:25 a.m.

A 42-year-old Prince George man has been arrested following an early morning downtown commercial break-in. 

Just after 4 a.m. on today (Sunday, April 12) the Prince George RCMP received a report of a commercial alarm at a business on the 1400 block of Third Avenue. 

Frontline officers attended the scene within seconds. An adult male suspect attempted to flee on foot, but ran back to the business. 

Due to safety concerns for officers, the North District RCMP's Emergency Response Team were called in to assist. 

Then at 7:30 a.m., the suspect was arrested with the assistance of a police dog service team. He was transported to hospital for treatment of minor wounds and has been transported back to the detachment. 

He will be held in custody overnight and will appear in court by teleconferencing on Monday, April 13. 

Portions of Third and Fourth Avenue and Brunswick Street were closed to the public for approximately five hours. 

Police say the investigation is continuing. 

7:23 a.m.

Police are on scene in downtown Prince George following a commercial break and enter. 

The Prince George RCMP with the assistance of the North District RCMP's Emergency Response Team have responded to a a reported commercial break and enter on Third Avenue. 

Portions of  Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Brunswick Street are closed to the public and the RCMP are asking the public to avoid this area.

Further details will be released when the incident is resolved.
