Police cars were stuffed full of food items this weekend, thanks to the Prince George RCMP’s annual Pack-a-PC event.
An estimated 35 police cruisers were filled to the brim with food items and more than $5,800 in cash and gift cards, which is five more cars than last year's record and over $1,800 more than the previous record set in 2017.
Local police officers, volunteers and police detachment staff accepted donations yesterday (Dec. 8) at all four Save-on-Foods locations.
For six hours, Prince George residents were invited to help pack a police cruiser with non-perishable food items and the community came out in full force to answer the call.
“Thank you very much to the people of this community for once again stepping up to help feed seniors in need," says Bev Livingstone, a City of Prince George municipal employee who organized the event.
"These donations go a long way to make their holiday a great one."
This morning (Dec. 9), representatives for the Prince George RCMP with the help of students from both Duchess Park and D.P. Todd Secondary schools delivered all of the donations to the Prince George Council of Seniors, all of which will help feed seniors in need this holiday season.
“The RCMP would like to thank the Prince George Save-On-Foods stores for partnering with us for this event, Wood Wheaton GM for donating the cube van and all those that took the time to donate to this worthwhile cause,” adds Cpl. Craig Douglass, in a news release.
