Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held in a new location this year.
The ongoing construction of the parkade and condominium development next to Veteran’s Plaza and city hall means the ceremonies need to relocate.
This year, the event will begin with the assembling of parade participants and spectators at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre starting at 9:15 a.m. This portion of the event will feature the opening ceremony, songs and the recitation of In Flanders Fields.
The parade will then assemble outside along Canada Games Way and proceed at 10:45 a.m. to a temporary cenotaph erected on Seventh Avenue between Dominion and Brunswick streets near the Terry Fox statue.
Spectators are encouraged to view the ceremony from Community Foundation Park next to the Four Seasons Leisure Pool and the north side of Seventh Avenue.
On-street parking is available for free as well as at the following locations:
- Days Inn Hotel (enter via Sixth Avenue, Quebec Street or Dominion Street)
- Parking lot behind city hall and Rolling Mix Concrete Arena
- Prince George Public Library parking lot
Pay-parking is available in Coast and Marriott Hotel lots; parking for people with mobility challenges is available in the lot next to the Four Seasons Leisure Pool (registered tag must be displayed).
This Remembrance Day marks 100 years since the official armistice of the First World War and the Bells of Peace initiative, which will see churches across Canada ringing bells 100 times at sundown. The bells will ring out once every five seconds for a total of nine minutes.
