If you’ve ever kicked yourself for missing a school board meeting, you’re now in luck.
School District No. 57 (SD57) will now be video recording and archiving all of its regular public board meetings through its website.
A motion was passed at the SD57’s special board meeting on Tuesday night (Jan. 5) to officially authorize the district to link a video archive of public board meetings to its website for up to a one-year period.
The Prince George district has been live-streaming its board meetings with the use of Zoom and YouTube throughout the pandemic.
“I think it is a great idea and something I had brought forward previously, but, at that point, it wasn’t something we were able to do. So really excited that we are in a position now where we can look to do this,” said Trustee Tim Bennett.
The rationale for the decision is that recording and providing a link to a video archive of public board meetings on the school district’s website will allow the public to view the meetings at their convenience in hopes of providing additional transparency on items debated at the public board table.
“I too fully support this as not everyone can actually stream live meetings the night we have meetings,” said Trustee Ron Polillo.
“Anything that enhances that and gives the public more opportunity to see what we do here at the public board table is important.”
The motion was approved unanimously.
The next public SD57 board meeting is scheduled to take place Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
