The popularity of French immersion education in Prince George and across the province is not wavering.
According to a new report released by Canadian Parents for French, British Columbia & Yukon (CPF B.C. & Yukon), enrollment in French Immersion programs has been increasing across the province for 21 consecutive years.
The report also states that School District 57 (SD57) has hit another record this year.
As of the 2018-19 school year, 1,155 students in SD57 (Prince George) were registered in French immersion programs.
That's 8.69 per cent of the entire student body.

"This year we celebrated 50 years of French immersion in British Columbia. From modest and determined beginnings, this exceptional education program has grown to expand into almost every corner of our province," says Greer Cummings, president of CPF B.C. & Yukon in a news release.
To compile the report, CPF B.C. & Yukon collected enrolment statistics from B.C.'s Ministry of Education and the Yukon Department of Education.
Last year, 53,995 students were enrolled in French immersion across B.C., which is almost 10 per cent of the entire student body.
"Today we celebrate the strength and resilience of our multicultural and multilingual society. The continued growth of French immersion is a wonderful extension and reflection of our cultural heritage," adds Glyn Lewis, executive director for CPF B.C. & Yukon.
