Trailing Manitoba 2-1 Thursday night midway through a playoff game to determine who goes on to the semifinal round at the Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown, P.E.I., the 15-year-old Prince George minor hockey product scored two unanswered goals and assisted on Savin Virk’s empty-netter to cinch a 4-2 victory.
The boys from B.C. will meet Ontario Friday at 3:30 PT for the right to play for the gold medal on Saturday.
Ryder Green of Prince George made 37 saves in goal for B.C., with his team outshot 39-28 in the game.
B.C. (2-1) finished second in Pool B, after losing their tournament opener 7-4 to Ontario on Sunday.
In other quarterfinal results Thursday, Saskatchewan beat Nova Scotia 7-2, Ontario topped New Brunswick 5-2 and Quebec defeated Alberta 3-1.
Saskatchewan will face Quebec in the other semifinal Friday at noon.
Earlier Thursday, B.C. became the first province ever to sweep the medal podium in a biathlon event at Canada Games, locking up the top three finishes in the female individual event at Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park in Brookvale, P.E.I.
Mia Rodger of North Vancouver won gold , completing the 10-kilometre course in 40:07, followed by silver medalist Jessabelle Telenberg of Williams Lake (40:11) and bronze medalist Molly Caldwell of Golden (40:49).
Aliah Turner of Prince George, 16, finished 10th (43:23).
Jean-Nicolas de Broek of Sate-Foy, Que, won his third gold medal of the Games, crossing the finish of the male individual event in 38:59. Sebastien Simonson of Kamloops captured silver (39:26), while Theo Fradelle of Canmore , Alta., won bronze (40:18).
Nineteen-year-old Liam Simons of Prince George, the bronze medalist in Tuesday’s pursuit, was 10th (41:58).
In other Prince George results from the Games, former Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club member Jack Hanson, 17, placed 10th in the 5,000-metre long track speed skating event Thursday in Halifax.
Hanson clocked 7:53.71 and was just ahead of his 11th-place Fort St. John Elks clubmate Matthew Mitchell (7:56.80) and 15th-place Nicolas Guliov of Fort St. John (8:19.33).
Daniel Hall of Calgary won the race in 2:15.41.
Kieran Hanson of Fort St. John (Jack’s 20-year-old brother) did not race the 5,000.
The four Team B.C. male long track members were seventh in the team pursuit earlier Thursday, won by Team Quebec.
After reeling off three straight wins to lock up first place in Pool B, 23-year-old Joel Ewing of Prince George and the undefeated B.C. wheelchair basketball team had the day off Thursday while they await their opponents in Friday semifinal round.
Quebec has also advanced to the semis as winners of the A Pool preliminary round.
