Prince George was well-represented this weekend at the 2019 Special Olympics B.C. Winter Games.
The 26 participating athletes put on a strong show in Vernon in six different sports, racking up a total of 29 medals for the region, including six gold, 10 silver, and 13 bronze.
“They have been training for these games for the past year and were excited to put their skills to the test. The athletes did well, with many of them achieving personal bests,” said spokesperson Wilma VanHage in an email to PrinceGeorgeMatters.
Snowshoeing and five-pin bowling were the most successful categories for Prince George.
David Dunn raced on foot to three medals (gold, silver, bronze), while Linda Renner and Emilie Snyders spared no time in striking gold twice in bowling.
Cross-Country skier Danny Lafreniere crossed the finish line first to win the remaining gold for Prince George.
The particular event is held every four years in B.C., and athletes are hoping they get the call to compete at Nationals, which will take place in Thunder Bay, Ontario next year.
