Special teams were the difference Wednesday night (Jan. 15).
In the Spruce Kings’ 6-2 decision in Salmon Arm, the Silverbacks were able to score five power-play goals against Prince George, including two within 31 seconds of each other in the third period.
The red, white and blue were forced to used both goaltenders yesterday.
Jett Alexander started between the pipes and was credited with the loss, stopping 19 of 23 shots until he was pulled at the 9:09 mark of the second.
Carter Woodside turned away 13 of 15 shots in the remainder of the contest.
Prince George product Jeremy Gervais also made his return to the BCHL against his hometown ‘Kings, nabbing three assists in his first game in a Silverback uniform.
Salmon Arm enjoyed period leads of 2-0 and 4-2 before getting to the 6-2 final.
Wil Kushniryk and Fin Williams scored the Spruce Kings’ markers in the tilt.

Kushniryk’s third of the year came unassisted while on a power-play, while Williams’ eighth was in regulation play from Mason Waite and Nick Poisson.
Poisson suited up a day after participating in the 2020 CJHL Prospects Game.
The loss drops Prince George’s record to 14-24-2-3 and are now three-and-a-half games back of Surrey for fourth place in the Mainland Division.
The Spruce Kings will turn back the clock Friday night (Jan. 17), 7 p.m. against the Langley Rivermen at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
The team will pay tribute to the Prince George Mohawks by wearing their old uniforms on ice and welcoming former members of one of the most successful hockey teams in all of northern B.C.
