If your up-and-coming hockey star needs some fine-tuning with COVID-19 putting minor competition on hold, the Prince George Spruce Kings are offering a camp to fill the void.
The team’s High Performance Winter Youth Skill Development camp begins Monday, Nov. 16 and is set to undergo sessions for budding athletes, born between 2008 and 2011, through until the final week of February.
COVID-19 safety measures will also be put in place for those interested in joining the program at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA), including players requested to arrive in full gear 15 minutes before their ice time starts.
The Kings say more details regarding entrance and safety plans will be sent to registered participants closer to the first development camp.
Sessions will be conducted by Prince George Associate Coach Lukáš Lomicky, who was hired by the Spruce Kings in April after spending three years with Revelstoke’s Junior ‘B’ club.
He led the Grizzlies to a league championship in 2019, a 2020 regular-season conference title with a record of 39-6-1-3 and were in the middle of the second round of playoffs before COVID-19 abruptly cancelled everything.
Lomicky is originally from the Czech Republic, was his country’s video coach at last year’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and won bronze over Team Canada White.
The Spruce Kings’ High Performance Winter Youth Skill Development program is for athletes born between 2008 and 2011 in the Under-13 and -11 divisions, and only 25 will be allowed per session.
There’s a $250 fee for signing up.
A registration form and more information can be found on the team’s website.
