Dr. Nadine Caron of Prince George will finally receive her Order of British Columbia this afternoon at a ceremony in Victoria.
Caron was named to the order last year for her work as a health leader working to improve health care and outcomes for Indigenous people.
She is Canada’s first female Indigenous general surgeon. As a professor, she teaches in UBC’s Northern Medical Program and the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health at UNBC and continues to provide surgical oncology care to cancer patients in the Prince George region.
B.C. Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin and Premier David Eby will present the award, B.C.’s highest civilian honour, on Caron and a small group of other B.C. residents at today’s ceremony.
