The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team continues to draw talent from Prince George, announcing they've recruited two more players from the area this morning.
Kyle McKee and Cole Johnston of the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club (PGYVC) both signed letters of intent to join the TRU program in September after graduating in the spring.
The 6’5" McKee plays his high school ball at Duchess Park Secondary, while the 6’7" Johnston is at DP Todd Secondary.
“TRU has a prestigious volleyball program and has strong connections with Prince George,” says McKee in TRU athletics release. “It has great options for my career path so this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. The fact that many Prince George players have come to TRU didn’t influence my decision but it gives me a sense of comfort for the school and the team.”
The pair joins a line of players from B.C.'s northern capital to suit up for the WolfPack, including Graham Allard, Tim Flannigan, Elise Foot, Spencer Reed, Hali Drezet, Nic Balasz, Carson, Ryan Hampe, Jordan Foot, and Colin Carson.
“Great to welcome two more products of the PGYVC club program," says head coach Pat Hennelly. "I have been watching both Cole and Kyle over the past couple of years. They are both big bodies and they type of athletes we needed in this recruiting class. Getting middle blockers was a key for this group with all of our middles going into their fifth year."
The WolfPack men are currently 9-7 on the season, for a while sitting in the U-Sports Top 10 rankings before an early January losing streak bumped them out.
Johnston and McKee are the fourth and fifth committed players for TRU next season joining: Kobby Nyarko, Brody Kopec and Cole Behiels.
