Prince George’s Blackwater MX Park no longer hosting 2020 Canadian Triple Crown Series

Second leg of national motocross competition moving to Kamloops

Motorbike rips and audience roars will not be heard in Prince George this summer.

Blackwater MX Park was set to host its fourth consecutive Rockstar Energy Canadian Triple Crown Series in June, but has pulled out of the national competition due to an ‘administrative change.’

Hundreds of Canada’s best bikers ascended upon the northern capital between 2017 and 2019 as the city was the second of a nine-event motocross tour.

In a statement yesterday (Feb. 6), Kourtney Lloyd says the decision was not made by the Triple Crown Series team.

“This decision was mine and mine alone,” explains the former administrator of Blackwater MX Park.

“The details of it are irrelevant but I want to thank everyone that helped me put on three iconic races and put PG on the map as Riders Favourite Track two years in a row. I am proud of the events we held and I am proud of my city.”

As a result, Round Two of the Motocross Tour in the Series has shifted to Kamloops and Whispering Pines MX Park on June 7.

“We would also like to thank the whole crew at Blackwater MX Park for hosting exceptional National Races over the last three seasons,” reads a release from Jetwerx, the team that organizes the Rockstar Energy Canadian Triple Crown Series.

“We hope and expect to return to the Blackwater MX Park at some future date.”

Prince George product Jess Pettis claimed the bronze medal in the 250PRO category last year after finishing first and fifth in his two races respectively and accumulating enough points to reach the podium.

That was seven spots better than his 10th overall placing in 2018 on home soil.

He went on to finish sixth in the final Triple Crown Series standings, 246 points behind first place and the $100,000 grand prize.

“They’re very very rough and steep for sure,” Pettis explained to PrinceGeorgeMatters last year about the course conditions, which provided the only outdoor stadium-like concept on the tour where fans can (literally) see everything.

“It’s all about making really good line choices in those moments and making sure you don’t get too caught up in it. Picking smooth lines was the way to go.”

Kamloops will be the only B.C. stop on the Canadian Triple Crown Series circuit this year.
