An iconic downtown staple is officially starting to say its goodbyes.
Northern Hardware and Furniture Co. announced in November that they were shutting their doors after 100 years of business in downtown Prince George.
The store was founded in 1919 when Alex Moffat and Frank Witmore bought out the Northern Lumber Company on George Street.
Kelly Green's great-grandfather started in 1919, after which her grandfather and his brother took it over, and then her dad took it over before passing away six years ago, which she then took over.
"There were a lot of factors," she told PrinceGeorgeMatters in an earlier interview. "And it isn't an overnight decision. It might feel that way. It's a huge loss to the community for sure and it might feel that way to Prince George, but it's been coming for a while."
The liquidation sale begins today (Jan. 2) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the sale is expected to be held until the end of January if clearout takes that long. Savings are between 30 to 60 per cent.
If you're wondering where Champ (the famous horse) is going, you'll be able to find him at The Exploration Place.
Prince George children enjoyed rides on the horse at Northern Hardware since the 1950s.
The price to ride the horse remained at 10 cents throughout the years.
