Prince George's John Hart Bridge set to partially close Oct. 1

Sewer line repair means drivers will have to find alternate routes

Signs are now up by the John Hart Bridge, warning commuters of pending John Hart Bridge closure taking effect Oct. 1 and directing them to alternate routes.

The bridge will be down to one lane for one week to allow crews to repair a partially blocked sewer mainline. The two southbound lanes will then be closed for two weeks beginning on Oct. 9.

A 2019 inspection of the sanitary forcemain crossing the Nechako on the John Hart Bridge indicated issues that require its replacement, which will involve installing a permanent bypass line under the bridge, running about 1,300 metres from lift station PW117 on Richard Road to the intersection of Highway 97 and 5th Avenue where it will tie into the existing line.

Correction: An earlier version of this story had incorrect information about the first week of lane closures. We apologize for the error.
