A Prince George woman has gotten one step closer to gracing the cover of a popular women's magazine.
Fitness coach and published model Kendall Kershaw is now one of 12 finalists that made it to the quarter-finals in the Maxim Cover Girl Competition.
Voting in the Quarter-Finals is from July 6 to 16, where voting has been reset and public voting will be determined one winner from each group that will move on to the semi-finals.
She says it wasn't hard for her to want to enter the competition, wanting to model ever since she was young.
"Ever since I was young I loved the idea of modeling," said Kershaw.
"This competition is a way for me to have fun building new connections, getting my name out there, as well as practicing the job itself - and of course that's in addition to the draw of becoming Maxim's next cover model."
The competition offers live updates, which allows people to follow along with Kershaw and watch movement in the competition, which she says is a big thrill for her.
"It's been more than exciting! [...] I have so many amazing people that will text or even call when my placing changes and we tend to get pretty geeked. It's all super cool!"
Kershaw finished first in her group rounds, which moved her the quarters.
As of publication (July 7), she sits in third place out of 12 other women.
"I was ecstatic [finding out she was moving on], and a little beyond belief," Kershaw says.
"Advancing past the group rounds was just phenomenal in terms of making new connections and establishingmyself a little bit as a model. Beyond that I'd say the best part would be celebrating with all the people who are excited and following along on this journey with me."
Prince George has seen numerous residents on the big stages lately, something that means the world and more to Kershaw.
"I'd say a big freaking 'hell yeah' to this city. I can hardly believe the response I've received and the people I've had the opportunity to meet. This community seems to not only support what I'm doing, but WHY I'm doing this, and chasing this dream so hard. I love Prince George, I'm so glad to have grown up here."
The winner's prize is worth roughly $75,000 with $25,000 being cash and $50,000 going towards being photographed to appear on the cover of Maxim Magazine's U.S. edition.
If she wins, Kershaw says she'd travel, invest in her business Little Fit Company and help out more around Prince George.
