Markus Myatovic is beginning his junior hockey pursuit on Vancouver Island after a successful 2019-20 campaign in his hometown.

The Prince George product has signed with the Campbell River Storm of the Vancouver Island Junior ‘B’ Hockey League (VIJHL) for the 2020-21 season after winning the North Central Bobcats’ season-scoring title last year.

The 18-year-old potted 22 points in 20 regular-season games with Cariboo Hockey’s U18 AA club, including 11 goals and 11 assists, before adding four more in the playoffs.

Myatovic’s numbers were good enough for seventh in the league standings and helped the Bobcats claim the rural division playoff title ahead of the season getting cut short by COVID-19.

He now joins a Campbell River franchise that’s reached the VIJHL Finals in the last five completed seasons, including three league championships in that span (2015, 2017, 2018).

In 2019-20, the Storm amassed a record of 29-16-0-3 and were about to start the North Division Finals series against Oceanside before COVID-19 cancelled the rest of the playoffs.

Campbell River has won eight VIJHL trophies since joining the nine-team league in 1997, adding provincial and western Canadian banners in 2015.

Myatovic served as an alternate captain with the North Central Bobcats and was also a member of the Prince George Secondary Polars hockey team.

He is also the older brother of Nico Myatovic, who signed a WHL standard agreement with the Seattle Thunderbirds earlier this year.
