If you like to spend time outdoors, here's some good news for you.

The City of Prince George has announced that the track at Masich Place Stadium will reopen to the public next week.

As of July 15, the track will be available for public walking from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, unless the facilities have been booked by another user group.

The track has been closed due to construction and physical-distancing requirements, but the city says council has authorized public access to the track before the construction is fully completed.

“Council and staff are working to reopen as many facilities as we responsibly can, while still trying to keep all of us safe during the global pandemic. We realize members of the community are extremely eager to return doing the activities they enjoy,” Mayor Lyn Hall says in a city release.

“This is a difficult time and council is extremely grateful for the patience and understanding of residents as we navigate these uncharted waters.”

Access to the stadium will be from the Massey entrance.

"Residents using the facility are reminded to avoid any construction zones at the stadium and maintain a two-metre distance between themselves and others," the release adds. "Renovations are expected to be complete by the end of the summer."

The city says they are also working with local sports organizations to have use on city fiends and ball diamonds continue. Groups are working to align their own return to play plans alongside the city that meets safety requirements.

Parks, trails, playgrounds, hard-surface courts, dog parks, bike/skate parks, and general-use fields and ball diamonds are available for residents.

As a reminder, the city is not accepting bookings from the public for parks or park facilities in 2020.

This includes the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park pavilion and bandshell, the Rainbow and Paddlewheel Park gazebos, and Connaught Hill. Residents interested in using these facilities for small gatherings can do so on a first-come, first-served basis.
