A 69-year-old man spent a night in the woods after getting lost while out riding his quadrunner over the long weekend.

Prince George RCMP said the man, a Willow River resident, had gone out for a ride on the afternoon of Sat., May 22.

RCMP were alerted at about 11 p.m. after the man failed to return home and his wife and neighbours had carried out a search of their own but were unable to find him.

Volunteers from the Prince George, Mackenzie and Nechako Valley search and rescue teams were called out and, at about 9:30 a.m. the next morning, he was located by helicopter. An RCMP handler and dog, followed by volunteers, were then able to reach the man.

According to a posting on the Prince George Search and Rescue Facebook page, he settled in for the night and got a fire going after getting turned around, walking some distance, and experiencing troubling symptoms.

A long-line under a helicopter was used to get the man to safety, PGSAR said.
