A northern B.C. resident died in Prince George hospital this week in succumbing to injuries from an incident south of Kersley.
According to Mounties, the 71-year-old Quesnel resident was transported to University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) after he was thrown halfway down a 400-metre embankment from a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) they were driving when it went rolled over.
RCMP received a call shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday (March 17) of the incident.
The driver was using the UTV to dump debris near the embankment on a private property before it started to roll down.
About 200 metres down, the vehicle got lodged in a tree on a steep decline, which threw the driver down the final 200 metres to the Fraser River.
They ended up on a dry bank with serious life-threatening injuries.
When first responders arrived, they couldn't send a helicopter down to rescue them because there was no place to land and darkness was settling in.
As a result, Quesnel Search and Rescue was called in to extricate the driver and an ambulance rushed them to the Quesnel Airport to be flown to Prince George.
They were the lone occupant of the UTV when the rollover took place and the person isn't being named publicly at this time.
RCMP say an investigation is still ongoing.
