The RCMP Venturer and Rover program received an unexpected award earlier this week.

Helen Owen of the Canadian Cancer Society surprised the group by presenting them with a youth achievement certificate for their work on the Society's Relay for Life held every May at Masich Place Stadium.

The group has provided 24-hour security for the event for the past 10 years and have committed to continuing the service this year when the event is held May 10-11.

The co-ed Venturer and Rover program is a partnership between the RCMP and Scouts Canada and is one of only a few such groups in the country. The group invites youth, aged 14 to 26, to participate in both traditional scouting opportunities as well as RCMP training opportunities.
