On Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George announced that those charging electric vehicles at stations at its buildings would have to pay a fee of $2 per hour effective March 1.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George will require electric vehicle users to pay to use charging stations at three of its buildings effective March 1.

In 2023, the regional district installed electric vehicle chargers at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride, the Canoe Valley Recreation Centre in Valemount and its offices at 155 George St. in Prince George.

These chargers are level two, which charge at 240 volts compared to the 120 volts of a level one charger.

“The Level 2 EV chargers were complimentary for an introductory period to support EV adoption across the region, but fees will now be implemented on a cost recovery basis,” said a release sent out by the regional district on Monday, Feb. 24.

That fee will be $2 per hour.

Since they were installed, the district said they have “helped to avoid nearly 13,000 (kilograms) of greenhouse gas emissions.”
