Discrediting their own commissioned report is what Prince George city councillors find themselves in the position of doing.
For the past three months, Nielson-Welch Consultants Inc. of Kelowna was tasked by city officials with examining the pros and cons of tax abatements for land developers in Prince George. City council had been approached already with the idea of 30-year tax breaks on proposed developments in the downtown core. Ten-year abatements are already possible.
Earlier this week they stunned mayor and council with a report that not only suggested long-term abatements wouldn't work, but that land development in general in Prince George wouldn't work.
