UNBC has signed an agreement with two other universities in the interior that it says will lead to greater research opportunities in the north.
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus have teamed up with UNBC to form the Interior University Research Coalition after more than two years of collaboration. The three universities signed a memorandum of understanding last week.
A statement released by UNBC said that the agreement will result in the creation of a tri-university partnership office, whose mandate will include coordinating both research and funding proposals. The new office will be lead by Janice Larson, who has previously worked with the provincial government in the areas of international education and regional innovation. She played a key role in developing the province's international education strategy, which has helped B.C. attract over 130,000 international students.
"Each of our institutions brings a unique set of research strengths that will ultimately lead to greater educational opportunities for graduate students in Central and Northern B.C.," said UNBC president Daniel Weeks in a release.
