Residents air smoke concerns

Grant Sheppard and Lanna Mercer weren't letting the lingering wildfire smoke - visible against the cut banks along the Fraser River - stop them from making their daily walk through Fort George Park on Friday morning.

The night before had been a different story.

The pair, who live on Oak Street, west of the Hudson's Bay Slough, had wanted to go for a drive to cool down, but stopped quickly because wildfire smoke was so thick it irritated the eyes and burned the throat. It was so unpleasant, they had to keep the windows up, eliminating the possibility of cooling down.
