Highway 16 east of Vanderhoof reopened after serious accident

Morning fog limited visibility for drivers Sunday morning, RCMP advise motorists advised to watch for slippery roads
Accident on Highway 16
This red triangle on this map produced by Drive BC shows the location of an accident Sunday morning on Highway 16 10 kilometres east of Vanderhoof which has closed the highway in both directions.

Motorists traveling west on Highway 16 were delayed in their travels for most of the day Sunday after a morning motor vehicle accident closed the highway in both directions.

The highway was finally reopened at about 5 p.m.

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. about 10 kilometres east of Vanderhoof between Saranovich Road and Grants Frontage Road, about an hour’s drive west of Prince George.

Vanderhoof RCMP were called to the scene and determined the highway had to be shut down to allow North District Traffic Services and the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service to determine what caused the accident.

Police have not released details on condition of any of the occupants of the vehicles involved in the collision.

Foggy conditions were prevalent Sunday morning which limited visibility from Vanderhoof to Bednesti Lake and drivers are being advised to watch for slippery road conditions and stay off the roads, if possible, when the roads become too dangerous for travel.

Reopening of the road was delayed until the vehicles involved in the accident were removed.

Vanderhoof RCMP are asking for any information about the collision and people who might have witnessed it should call them at 250-567-2222.
