Roadside tree goes up in flames

Fire crews were called to Northwood Pulp Road at Aberdeen Road

City fire crews were called to the corner of Northwood Pulp Road and Aberdeen Road Saturday evening after a tree caught fire.

RCMP officers took statements from witnesses while firefighters battled the blaze, which broke out next to the Chevron Cardlock and across from Art Knapp Plantland.

The fire, which was spotted around 7:50 p.m., is under investigation.

Conditions are dry in the area, putting roadside trees, bushes and grass at risk of fire from discarded cigarettes or other flames.

Tossing a cigarette butt out of a vehicle window is illegal, with fines for offenders.
