Students at Immaculate Conception School staged an all-day soccerthon Thursday in an effort to raise money for the Northern Uganda Development Foundation.
About 200 students took part in the fundraiser organized by a Grade 5 class hoping to raise money to buy more seeds, poultry and tools to support farmers in feeding their families.
Each class also participated by making soccer balls out of plastic bags and elastics, which is what the children in Uganda use to play.
The foundation was started by Prince George resident Dr. Chris Opio to help the people of Northern Uganda.
"Over the years IC School has supported efforts through the foundation and have helped establish a well, supported a school with generating power, printing and some supplies, contributed to the community centre and helped with a demonstration farm that has been established by sending funds to purchase supplies and implements," the school said by email.
The said it hopes to raise over $1,000 from $5 donations from each student and staff member.
