There’ll be two Prince George Spruce Kings’ alumni part of NCAA Division One hockey history next year.
Preston Brodziak is the latest to commit to Long Island University (LIU), where a men’s hockey team was granted in late April to start its inaugural season for 2020-21.
The Estevan, Sask. product joins his former Kings’ captain Nolan Welsh as part of the Sharks’ first-ever roster based in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Brodziak capped off his BCHL stint notching a career-high 32 points in 56 games with Prince George, including 15 goals and 17 assists.
“We are very happy for Preston,” says Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes in a team statement.
“He was a great competitor and teammate for us last season. He is very deserving of this opportunity.”
“We are very excited for Preston’s commitment to Long Island University,” adds Head Coach Alex Evin about Brodziak.
“Preston made a very positive impact on our team this past season. He was a pleasure to coach every day and we look forward to following Preston and LIU’s future success.”
Before moving to the northern capital, the soon-to-be 21-year-old played in Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo.
Brodziak will be the third Prince George hockey alumnus to be part of NCAA’s 61st Division One hockey program.
Welsh committed to LIU on June 3, while former Cariboo Cougar Daine Dubois joined the Sharks a day earlier.
