It has been twenty-two years since a senior boys AA provincial volleyball banner was raised in the gym at Duchess Park Secondary School but that all changed Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony that honoured the Condors, who recently won their first senior boys AA volleyball title since the 1999-2000 season.
In front of friends, family, and fellow students, the players were recognized for their hard work and dedication on their way to the provincial title. Lheidli T'enneh elder Darlene McIntosh started with a traditional welcome, while dignitaries MP Todd Doherty, Mayor Lyn Hall, SD57 Trustee Ron Pollilo, Acting SD57 Superintendent Cindy Heitman, and Duchess Park principal Sid Jawanda said a few words during the ceremony. Coach Jason Weaver, and team captain Chris Zimmerman spoke on behalf of the team.
After a short video chronicling the team's season including their North Central Zone title, the players gathered around the banner as it was slowly raised to much applause.
