Severe thunderstorm advisory issued for PG

Sunny skies expected to return on Wednesday

On Monday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Prince George.

A severe thunderstorm advisory in in effect for Prince George this afternoon and the threat of storm activity is expected to last into the overnight hours.

Environment Canada says there’s a 60 per cent chance of lightning and thunder, with heavy rain expected and winds gusting to 40  kilometres per hour.

Between 10 and 15 millimetres of rain is in the forecast for tonight.

The rain is needed, however, to keep the fire hazard down, with only minimal amounts of precipitation having fallen in the region over the past couple weeks.

There’s a 30 per cent chance of rain on Tuesday under a mainly cloudy sky.

The expected high for Tuesday is only 13 C, seven degrees cooler than the average. After an low of 5 C overnight Tuesday, the sun is predicted to return for the rest of the week.

Wednesday’s forecast high is 20 C, warming to 22 C on Thursday and Friday.

As has been the pattern most of the summer, the weekend weather will be quite warm, with respective highs of 25 C and 27 C predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Lows will range from a chilly 4 C on Thursday to 8C on Saturday.
