Semi-truck fire off Highway 97 damaged fibre networking lines near Hixon

Shaw now says a fibre networking issue, which caused an outage for thousands of Prince George customers today (Nov. 13), has now been resolved.

The company's latest report believes services, like internet, home phone and television, 'should be online.'

Technical crews spent the afternoon repairing the damages after a semi-truck caught on fire after going off into an apparent ditch off Highway 97 near Hixon early this morning.

Shaw also thanks its customers for remaining patient.

In its latest update, Shaw Communications says its service is 'back up and running' following a truck fire near Prince George today (Nov. 13)

The company says as of 4:15 p.m., teams completed repairs to the fibre network lines that were damaged after a semi-truck went off Highway 97 and up in flames.

Shaw acknowledges that not everyone in the Prince George area may have their services back right away and encourage those experiencing difficulties to contact its support line at 1-888-472-2222.

Crews are continuing to investigate how they can get service online for its customers this hour.

Drive BC is also reporting no more traffic disruptions on Highway 97 north of Hixon where the incident occurred.

11:30 a.m.

Shaw Communications is working to get its service back up and running in Prince George.

According to the service, an early morning truck fire along Highway 97 damaged a fibre networking line just north of Hixon.

Drive BC reported the incident around 7:30 a.m. today (Nov. 13) and crews are on scene navigating single-lane alternating traffic.

Shaw says its technical staff is also at the scene of the crash "working as quickly as possible to repair the damaged infrastructure as soon as it is safe to do so."

Highway 97 is expected to reopen around 1 p.m.
