Shoppers Drug Mart is dedicating its first shopping hour to those most at risk during the coronavirus pandemic.
The drugstore, owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd., announced on Monday evening that all stores will designate the first hour of shopping to “those who need assistance or consideration" starting this week.
This includes seniors, individuals with underlying health conditions and people living with disabilities.
Galen Weston, CEO of Loblaw Companies Limited, said that customers should not worry about empty shelves as their stores "are not running out of food or essential supplies."
"Our supply chain and store teams are responding to the spikes in volume and quickly getting the most important items back on the shelf. Volumes are already normalizing somewhat, and we are catching up," said Weston in a statement, adding that some items like hand sanitizer may take longer to restock.
Otherwise, he said, they are in "good shape."
Weston assures the company will have enough supply of food, drugs and essential products, they will not change the prices during COVID-19 pandemic, and will make sure stores stay up and running.
Seniors will also be able to apply the Seniors Day discount of 20 per cent on regular priced items during Shopper Drug Mart's first hour of operation every day.
Community members are encouraged to check the business hours of their local stores before going.
