The Prince George Public Library is joining libraries across the country in celebrating Canadian Library Month.
The library is offering an exhibit at the Bob Harkins Branch to showcase the incredible value of having a library card.
Part of the exhibit features stories from residents whose lives have been changed through their library cards, said Neil Godbout, administration communication co-ordinator.
"One woman explains how the library helped give her more information about caring for her newborn son after he was born prematurely and required months of hospitalization.
"Another resident talks about how reading books on designing and building rustic furniture inspired him to turn his hobby into a business. These are two of 13 stories on display. A smaller version of this exhibit is on display at the Nechako branch," Godbout said.
The second part of the exhibit shines a light on the thousands of books the Prince George Public Library has available in electronic form. The library owns 1,203 electronic books and library customers can also choose from 7,650 e-books available through Library To Go, one of the library's online databases. The books can be downloaded to read on today's e-reader devices available on the market.
The library also has 5,261 audiobooks available through Library To Go. These audiobooks can be downloaded to a home computer and loaded onto most mp3 players to listen to. All that is needed to access e-books and audiobooks is a Prince George Public Library card.
The Canadian Library Association sets aside October as Canadian Library Month to focus
on the continued important role of libraries in modern society. The Prince George Public
Library, like all of its sister libraries across the country, helps foster lifelong learning, provides the tools for people to adapt and succeed in a knowledge-based economy and encourages economic growth by providing access to information for everyone.
