This past weekend, Prince George Mounties conducted its first of several upcoming holiday checkpoints this month.
The RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services Section stopped 2,500 vehicles to check for and target alcohol- or drug-impaired driving on Saturday (Dec. 5), which resulted in several tickets issued at multiple locations both static and roving.
In six hours, police handed out five violations under the Motor Vehicle Act, including one 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30 day impoundment, and four provincial roadside suspensions for alcohol.
Other discovered infractions were as follows:
- Four = Drivers with no driver’s license
- Four = People driving contrary to restrictions
- Three = Vehicles without insurance
- Two = Prohibited drivers
RCMP also performed 50 approved screening device tests with a pass rating, a news release states.
“Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions on our roads,” says Cst. Jennifer Cooper.
“Your efforts to contact police may save a life.”
Dec. 5 was also National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
