Prince George and the surrounding area will be affected by wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours, Environment Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy warned in an air quality statement Thursday (Aug. 17) morning.
Conditions will change rapidly as a windy front moves south across the province through today and into tomorrow, the release said.
Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone, while people with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.
Residents are urged to take a break from the smoke at a location in the community where they can find clean, cool air.
